Babies are sounders and movers, born ready to make music, and they learn music in much the same way they learn language; by being immersed in it. Just as it is never too early to start talking to your baby, it is never too early to start singing with your baby. The special “Babies Class” for infants less than 8 months. is offered as a one-semester introduction to Music Together®. In this class, the activities are specifically designed to teach you how to support music development in infancy and how to connect with your baby through music using methods such as "purposeful touch," and "sound-layering." For infants older than seven months we do suggest registering for mixed-age classes, where your baby can learn not only from you, but also by watching, listening to and imitating the older children in the class.
My baby is under 8 months. Should I take a babies class or a mixed age class?
The Babies class is structured similarly to a mixed-age class. In both classes your teacher will lead you through a variety of activities, facilitating fun and creative ways for you to interact musically with your baby. The main difference lies in parent education. Because the infants are non-mobile in a Babies Class, there is a calmer energy which allows the teacher more opportunities to explain the ‘whys’ behind the ‘whats’ and to point out emerging musical behaviours.
